Lace Front Wigs
Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS A LACE FRONT?
A material similar in appearance to nylon pantyhose that is very
hard to see when it is placed against the skin. The hair is
knotted into the lace and appears to grow from the scalp. The
front edge of a hairpiece is the most important area. It is the
part that is always detected if you wear a bad hairpiece. Only a
lace front can be trusted to maintain the illusion of growing
hair.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LACE FRONTS AND FULL LACE
UNITS?
Lace fronts have lace from ear-to-ear. The rest of the unit is
stretch lace or monofilament. Some units have thin skin at the
nape (we don’t recommend those). Full lace wigs are all lace.
WHO SHOULD WEAR THE LACE FRONTS? Anyone looking to change
their look, clients with Alopecia areata, severe burns,
radiation, hereditary balding or chemotherapy clients.. Some
insurance will help pay for this service.
ARE LACE FRONTS ONLY FOR WOMEN? No. Men can have them
fitted also.
HOW LONG CAN I WEAR MY LACE FRONT? Lace fronts/full lace
units can last up to years if maintained properly.
CAN I GET AN ALL LACE SYSTEM?
Yes, unless your density is too high for lace. For densities of
medium and lighter, an all lace base is the best choice, but if
you want thicker hair, say heavy or thicker density, there is
not enough room on the lace for all the knots, so the knots
become doubles and singles, and then the lace no longer feels so
great to the touch.
WHICH FRONT EDGE IS THE LEAST DETECTABLE? Swiss lace,
visually, it's the ultimate.
WHAT ABOUT UNDETECTABILITY AND STRENGTH?
Swiss lace is least detectable but is more fragile. French lace
is very hard to detect and quite strong.
CAN I GET BLENDED COLORS, HAVE BABY HAIR ADDED & CAN I GET
HIGHLIGHTS? Yes.
CAN I HAVE A PART?Yes, the units will give you a part
that looks more natural than anything you’ve seen before. You
can have a side part, middle part or freestyle (so that you can
part the hair anywhere on the head). You decide!
WHAT IS INDIAN REMY HAIR? Quite simply, the best hair on
the market.
HOW DO I PUT IT ON? Instructions are included with your
order.
WHICH IS BETTER, TAPE OF GLUE? Everyone has their methods
of choice. Generally, it is much easier to use tape and it
provides a longer hold, however, some clients prefer glue. There
is no right or wrong way. It really is an individual choice.
HOW FAR FORWARD SHOULD IT BE WORN? Often, new
wearers of hair place the unit too far forward. They think that
looks okay, but people really don't have hair coming out of
their foreheads. The hairline should begin where your natural
hairline would have begun. That's at least three fingers above
the furrowed eyebrows.
HOW DO I REMOVE MY LACE HAIRPIECE WITHOUT DAMAGING IT? We
recommend (and sell) an oil remover that is second to none
(PURE). Spray or drip it along the hairline and wait for the
bond to release before lifting the hairpiece. It will lift in a
matter of seconds.
SHOULD I START TO RELEASE AT THE FRONT OR BACK? Whichever
you prefer The Adhesive Remover prevents the new tape from
sticking to the unit. Clean off the Adhesive Remover, (which is
oil based) with alcohol. Then shampoo and condition and let the
hair dry naturally.
DO I HAVE TO TAKE IT OFF EVERY NIGHT? No, you can wear
these units from 1 day up to 2 weeks without ever taking it off.
If well maintained you can remove, shampoo the unit and your
scalp/hair and replace for continued use for years. This all
depends on the adhesives used and how well you maintain your
unit.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN THE UNIT? The best
way is to remove it, remove the remaining adhesive residue and
then wash it and dry it. Details are provided with each
purchase.
WHAT ABOUT STYLING AIDS? Please avoid gels and mousses
containing alcohol as they will rapidly dry out and age your
unit. Hair serums are great and so are some creams and pomades.
Try one product at a time, but don't mix, for example, a
silicone based substance like a serum with an oil based
substance like hair cream. You might end up with strange feeling
hair and have to wash it all out and start over.
IS IT SAFE TO USE A HAIR DRYER TO STYLE MY HAIRPIECE?
High heat is death to your unit. Dry hair by shaking out a
piece that you are not wearing or by rolling it in a towel. If
you washed it in place, blot with a towel and your body heat
should finish drying it out in no time. If you must, you may use
low heat or cool air to dry your unit.
WILL THE UNIT TAKE DYE THE SAME WAY AS GROWING HAIR?
The hair in the hairpiece will take the color about three to
four times faster than growing hair.
CAN YOU EXPLAIN BLEACHED KNOTS? When a dark hair is tied
to the base of a hairpiece with a knot, you can see a dark dot
on the skin, especially when the base is lace. Lace cannot hide
the knot in the same way a monofilament base does. Bleaching the
knots, usually only done at the lace front, but sometimes all
over, makes the knots hard to see, and it helps create the
illusion that your hair is growing out of your head. So this is
a must have choice for dark colors.
CAN I HAVE BLEACHED KNOTS IF I HAVE DARK SKIN AND BLACK HAIR?
Yes. The bleaching will still help to hide the knot.
DESCRIBE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FRENCH LACE, SWISS LACE AND
THIN SKIN?
French lace is more durable than Swiss lace and is very
undetectable. Swiss lace is quite fragile but more un-detectable
(than French lace). Swiss lace is not recommended for the new
lace front wearer. Thin skin is very natural looking but can be
very hot. Thin skin is made of a polyurethane material (plastic)
and not recommended for warm climates.
WHAT IS THE BEST QUALITY HAIR FOR A HAIRPIECE OR WIG?
Indian hair is widely regarded as the best hair. It does not
tangle, and if you choose a darker color and less curly hair, it
is simply unbeatable with its beautiful feel and long life.
But if you prefer a tight curl, synthetic hair will give nicer
results. If you desire a tighter curl, you have to weight the
advantages of nicer feeling, less frizzy synthetic against
bleachable knots on partly perm-ruined human hair.
HOW CAN I STYLE MY NEW HAIR WITHOUT DAMAGING IT?
Avoid brushing or combing wet hair as it can get plucked out in
the process. Do not use hot air hair dryers. If you must, use
the lowest temperature possible. For synthetic hair including
human hair with synthetic gray, use no heat at all.
Avoid blow drying with tension from a round brush and avoid
using heated styling tools. To protect the base, the best and
safest tool you can buy is a vent or cushion brush that has
stiff plastic bristles, widely spaced, each with a protective
ball on the end.
HOW DO I KEEP THE HAIR AS BEAUTIFUL AND SILKY AS WHEN IT WAS
NEW?
Even the best hairpiece hair is dead and is not rooted inside an
oil producing shaft. Using popular conditioners and serums etc.,
helps. Also, use cool water temperatures when washing and low
heat settings if you must use a dryer or heat styling aide. We
sell shampoo and conditioning that will aide you in keeping your
unit in its optimum state.
WHAT DOES THE HAIRLINE LOOK LIKE? CAN YOU TELL IT’S A WIG?
That is the beauty of the full lace wig - it is totally
undetectable and creates a flawless hairline. No one will know
that you have a wig on. The wig is glued to the entire outside
perimeter of your head creating its own invisible hairline. We
provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to put your
wig on. For those living in or visiting Houston Texas we provide
application services at an additional cost. |
